Black Anthem was a good winner for his owners at Southwell on Wednesday, this was his third start in ten days that's resulted in form of 1st 2nd 1st. It was a another very good effort from this bonny horse that looks to be improving all the time.
Black Anthem has a brilliant attitude and is loving life at the moment, he’s not a superstar but certainly knows how to win and that's all that counts.
The racing from Goodwood has seen plenty more trouble in running and unlucky losers. It really is an awful place for punting. Thankfully I’ve learned my lesson to leave it alone after losing for years on end there.
I mentioned after the Derby, English King looks a ready-made St Leger horse and suggested he could be worth backing for the race. His effort at Goodwood a few days ago backed this up even more. English King was outpaced from the word go and is a stayer. 1m6f at Doncaster will be perfect for him. I really hope he’s allowed to run. Odds of 10-1 look big, back him EW.
A couple of shorter priced horses that are worth looking at today. Baarrij 1:30 Newmarket. She could be better than a 83 rated filly. She's the least experienced in the field and still looked green when winning at Windsor. There might be more to come if able to handle this different racecourse.
Katara was impressive at Kempton winning by five lengths. This is a deeper but her win and the manner of it, caught the eye. 3:15 Newmarket.
