We had a good morning visiting Newt on Saturday. It was great meeting plenty of new owners that have taken a share in our new filly.

Newt seems to have taken to jumping nicely and David Dennis is very happy with her. Newt needs quite a bit more jumping practise before she’s ready to make her hurdles debut, mid-August is the target.

The Glorious Goodwood meeting starts today, we hoped to run Mountain Rescue on Wednesday but he missed out on a run by two.

Goodwood is never an easy meeting to find winners at, you can get so many traffic problems and plenty of horses don’t seem to handle the racecourse.

Curiosity has done us a few favours on his last two starts, I’m taking him on though with Expert Eye in the 2:25.

Expert Eye was impressive on debut at Newbury, the form has worked out well and I hear Expert Eye has done some eye-catching work on the Newmarket gallops of late. He’s priced at 9-4 in what looks a competitive race, that’s short enough but a big effort is expected. I'm told he's very smart.

The Lennox Stakes at 3:00 will take a huge amount of winning, I could back 4 or 5 horses and likely not find the winner. However, I do think Storm Antarctic is a bit overpriced at 33-1.

Trained by Ed Walker, Stormy Antarctic has been running very well in competitive races and is never beaten far. Admittedly, he has quite a bit find to win, but I made him a 16-1 shot. With a strong pace almost guaranteed, “not had that of late” Stormy Antarctic should finish well and might grab a place at big odds.

The big race of the day is the Group 1 Qatar Goodwood Cup. I can’t back Big Orange at even money in such a race. He’s a worthy favourite but not for me at those odds. This will be a watching brief but I wouldn’t be surprised to see High Jinx out run his odds of 66-1.

My final pick on day 1 of the meeting is Rebel Streak priced at 5-1 in the 4:10.

Rebel Streak would have won last time out but didn’t have any luck in running. Despite this, he still finished 2^nd and did very well to do so. The run can be upgraded and he should have a decent chance at a EW price.
