Happy New year, I hope 2018 is prosperous for you and your family.

Before looking forward, a quick look back at last year. In 2017 Value Racing Club had 61 runners. This resulted in the below:

11 winners

7 seconds

11 thirds

32 unplaced “we did have numerous 4th places but I’ve not counted these”.

In total just over £93,000 in prize money was won. I put on Twitter £75k but forgot the flat prize money. DOH.

Each time we have a runner, very close to 50% have finished in the first 3. That’s a fantastic stat.

The years highlights would include, Mountain Rescue winning at Newmarket. Winning a race at the HQ of horse racing was a great thrill. Ebony Express winning on his comeback at Uttoxeter was emotional. Audacious plan winning the Durham National was arguably our big win of the year.

The aim for 2018 will be to try and take another step forward. We’ll bid for 12 winners but can hopefully push through that. We'll also be on the look out for a new recruit fairly soon. Do get in touch if you would like any more information.

West Of The Edge ran a super race in the feature at Haydock on Saturday. We finished 2nd beaten 3 lengths behind Emperor’s Choice. It was a full 19 lengths back to the 3rd placed horse. Emperor’s Choice won the Welsh National a few years ago and had come down to a rating of 124, peaked at 141. He was very well handicapped.

It was a great way to finish of 2017, we came close to landing another big Saturday race.

New Year’s Day wouldn’t be the same without racing at Cheltenham.

On first glance, Burtons Well must have a fair chance in the 2:00. He’ll love the going and should strip fitter for his seasonal appearance. The yards horses are starting to fire as they always do once the going turns heavy. 4-1 looks fair, with the option of EW.
