We had a good day at Newton Abbot on Wednesday, a winner and a second place from two runners. Black Anthem won his second race for us from just three starts. We claimed Black Anthem a few months ago for 6k, the horse has now paid for himself and is giving his owners some great fun.

Competition bumped into one on the day, finishing 8 lengths clear of the third horse. Competition ran very well but the winner was a big improver. The weather this week has been awful, for the second Saturday running we have soft and even heavy in the going description.

The 1:40 at Doncaster is an interesting race.

Alpen Rose got the hang of things towards the finish on debut finishing 2nd. The step up in trip is ideal and Alpen Rose will likely be hard to beat at odds of 4-7. Stars In The Sky looks the only real danger on paper. I hear she’s improved plenty for her debut run when 5th at Ascot. At a price of 11-4, maybe Starts In The Sky is a little bit of value?

With the York Ebor meeting taking place next week and the weather looking much better, I’ll be mainly holding fire for this excellent meeting.

We purchased two new horses last week, Artistic Language & Hugo ‘N Taz.

Artistic Language ticks every box for a juvenile hurdler, good flat rating, stays and handles soft ground. He can hopefully take nice rank in this department and could be a Cheltenham type.

Hugo ‘N Taz we are very excited about. He’s a horse we’ve been trying to buy for over a year. With proper race planning and running under the right conditions of heavy ground and three miles plus, Hugo has got a valuable staying chase in him.

The new horses complete our winter team, shares are available in each. Please get in touch for more information.
