A day off from the punting today, Cheltenham ended with a superb day of racing, but also had the very sad loss of Sir Eric.

It was a very good Festival from a betting point of view, nice winners highlighted each day. Pentland Hills 20-1 was a grand winner for readers yesterday. Depending on who you backed Dickie Diver with antepost, could have resulted in a nice place. He’s going to some a very smart horse.

Al Boum Photo was the pick of the Mullins horses in the Gold Cup I thought whilst Shantou Flyer was a very good second in the Foxhunters.

Our own horse Leoncavallo pulled his chance away, it was race over before the first hurdle. For whatever reason, Leon wanted to sprint and had a fight with Sam for a mile and a half. Missing the Betfair Hurdle because of the flu jabs did for him. Leoncavallo was too well and fresh.

We have runner this evening at Wolverhampton in the 7:45, Broughtons Admiral.

Broughtons Admiral has been in good form over hurdles, winning last time out. We purchased him off the level and bid to break his maiden tag. It’s a bit of a fact-finding mission to be honest. Not sure what trip he wants or if he will handle the surface. We’ll learn plenty either way.
